"Atžalynas" Knowledge Classroom
The Fund has successfully accomplished two educational and development projects in Jieznas Children Foster Home, namely, it has completely renovated and equipped the following rooms:
- Jieznas Knowledge Classroom (2005 summer) (see below) . The project value amounts to 87 626 Litas.
- Jieznas Library (2006 summer - autumn). The project value amounts to 43 479 Litas.
New Project - "Atžalynas" Knowledge Classroom
Pursuing its mission and previous experience of successful implementation of projects, the Fund is seeking to equip "Atžalynas" Knowledge Classroom: that is the computer classroom and the library which the Fund will establish in premises provided by the administration of Kaunas Children Foster Home "Atžalynas".
"Atžalynas" Children Foster Home
Kaunas children foster home "Atžalynas" was established in 1944 and takes care of orphans as well as children in need of parental care.
The ability of the children who live in Foster Home "Atžalynas" is limited in terms of using information technology, since the computers which are in a few rooms are technically-wise out-of-date and no longer suitable for use, and it is only the administration who can enjoy internet access. Besides, Children Foster Home "Atžalynas" is devoid of a library since The Home took care only of preschool children until 1988, and later no resources were allocated to establish a library there.
The Aim of the Fund
The Fund aims to establish in Children Foster Home "Atžalynas" :
- a contemporary Knowledge Classroom with a relevant software ant training equipment to enable the children to follow the principles of cutting-edge learning and to freely operate information technology;
- a state-of-the-art library including library management software and equipment and update the collection of books;
- a cozy and comfortable environment for children to gather and read books and newspapers subscribed by the Fund, play brain stimulating games and communicate with ecah other.
Premises
The administratin of Children Foster Home "Atžalynas" has allotted for the project the premises of 80 sq. metres of former but neglected swimming pool, where the Fund will conduct major repairs and install the Knowledge Classroom.
Jieznas Knowledge Classroom
On the 25th of October a newly established “Class of Knowledge” was granted to Jieznas children foster home. It is a class which has 11 computers in it. This class provides children with the possibility to get acquinted with the modern learning principles, to learn to use modern technologies, to study, and to communicate with other children abroad and in Lithuania.
The fund established the class and vacancies for the class administrators who will help children to get acquainted with the computer, answer their questions, and maintain the order.
